Parent urges Ventura Unified to post immigrant 'know your rights' resources and offer immediate outreach

At the June 10 meeting a Ventura Unified parent, Christina P., used the three-minute public-comment time to urge the district to make information for immigrant students and families more visible on its website and to provide quick outreach after recent local Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity.
“While looking for such information on our district’s website, I am unable to clearly find anything along the lines of immigrant rights,” Christina P. said. She described finding a statement from Superintendent Dr. Castro but not an obvious 'know your rights' resource or an accessible red-card PDF. The commenter pointed trustees to another district (LUSD) where a 'know your rights' PDF appears as a top result and asked Ventura Unified to replicate that accessibility.
She made three requests for immediate district action: 1) make rights information prominently visible on the district homepage, 2) send a ParentSquare notification to families with links and a simple 'red card' resource, and 3) offer know-your-rights trainings at school sites (she recommended BC Defensa or similar community partners). The board received the comment; there was no immediate action vote on the floor.
