Consultants outline Yukon parks and recreation master plan, urge resident input

YUKON, Okla. — Consultants from RDG Planning & Design and Pros Consulting presented an update on Yukon's parks and recreation master plan during the April 7 council meeting, describing early themes, outreach tools and the timeline to a final roadmap.

Molly Hansen of RDG said the process emphasizes public engagement: an online survey accessible via QR code, a real-time map where residents can drop pins to show needs or ideas, and in-person meetings including an upcoming parks-board presentation. "We want everyone who's here to be part of this plan and to see themselves in the plan," Hansen said, inviting residents to take the survey and participate in engagements over the coming weeks.

Brian Trusty of Pros Consulting described the plan's technical work: community-demographics analysis, facility assessments, operations-and-maintenance budgeting and a capital-improvement plan (CIP) that balances "critical," "sustainable" and "visionary" projects. Consultants said the CIP will include phasing and funding strategies so the city can prioritize repairs and smaller projects before pursuing long-range visionary investments.

Consultants and staff urged broad public participation to reach their response goal (the team said it hopes for more than 1,000 survey respondents), noting the final plan is intended to guide CIP budgeting and programming for the next decade and beyond. The team said an expanded presentation to the parks board was scheduled for later in the week and that the final master plan was expected by the end of the summer 2026.
