Davenport City commissioners on Thursday approved certification lists for multiple city positions, advancing dozens of candidates toward potential hires across public safety, engineering, IT and public works.
Staff presented candidate pipelines for each role and asked the commission to certify the lists. The commission approved all lists by voice vote.
Police officer recruitment: Staff reported 87 applicants for police officer openings, with 68 qualifying to test. Attrition at the physical test, written exam and background/polygraph stages left four candidates on the certified list; those four are expected to attend the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy on May 4 pending final approval.
Civilian digital forensic technician: Staff said 36 applicants applied for the position; after virtual exams, interviews and backgrounds, three candidates remained on the certified list. The selected hire is scheduled to start March 30 and must establish residency in Iowa or Illinois within two years.
Police services generalist (records/reception): Of 79 applicants, two candidates passed all selection steps and were placed on the certified list; one is scheduled to start March 30.
Construction inspector (presented by Gina): Gina said the position required inspection experience or related credentials; 25 applicants produced four certified candidates, three of whom are internal applicants who had already cleared background checks.
Custodian: Staff reported 57 applicants and a final certified list of 13 candidates after testing and backgrounds.
Enterprise process analyst (IT): The written exam and background process produced six candidates for certification from 52 applicants.
Laborer (presented by Sarah): Sarah reported 93 applicants for the public works laborer role; after exams and interviews the commission certified 15 candidates. The role requires a Class B commercial driver’s license with air-brake endorsement within three months of hire.
Commissioners asked procedural questions about packet completeness for some lists and about targeted outreach practices; staff said the city uses targeted outreach (including social media and job alerts) and may informally encourage qualified individuals to apply but must follow civil service rules for certified positions.
The commission approved certification of all lists and adjourned the meeting. The transcript records voice votes without roll-call tallies.
