The commission authorized up to $25,000 in county spending to support America 250 events and related community activities across Beaver County. Committee leads briefed the commission on a yearlong calendar of events, school and community involvement, and a plan to display flags and exhibits at county facilities.
Commissioners discussed possible uses of the funds — fireworks, a drone show or other programming — and the difficulties of estimating costs and securing required fire exemptions. The motion approved a county contribution of $25,000 toward America 250 planning and directed committee leads and staff to return with a more detailed budget and plan.
Separately, commissioners voted to fund $100 per Boys/Girls State participant (the committee estimated 17 participants) and to approve $100 per request to the local American Legion as an accessory donation after the group’s photo session. The commission clarified that final participant counts and accounting would be handled by county staff.
Committee members also reported widespread community volunteer activity, school performances and cleanup events tied to the America 250 program and asked commissioners to help publicize and coordinate activities across jurisdictions; staff said they would assemble photos and materials for a state-level briefing.
