Beaver County declares drought emergency, citing statewide water stress

The Beaver County Commission voted to adopt Resolution 2026-05, formally declaring a state of emergency because of severe drought conditions across the county and region. The motion was made, seconded and approved without recorded opposition.
Commission staff said the declaration would allow federal aid and emergency programs to be more readily accessed for residents and communities harmed by the drought. “When we declare this resolution, it allows some funding to be available federally … to our citizens and to those affected by the drought,” the Chair said during the discussion.
Several commissioners described the declaration as warranted given dry conditions across the West and noted upcoming regional drought meetings and state briefings. Staff flagged a series of drought-related events next week that county staff plan to attend and coordinate with state and federal partners.
The commission approved the resolution as drafted (Resolution 2026-05) and asked staff to file the declaration with the appropriate state and federal offices and post notice to the county website. Next steps include tracking available federal assistance programs and reporting back with guidance on eligibility and application deadlines.
