Upper Perk students honored for White House–inspired state-dinner project; Western Center culinary instructors highlight scholarships

Arndt described the project’s partnerships — including a series of conversations with Deesha Dyer (former White House social secretary) and a one-on-one virtual session with the former executive chef of the White House. She said the Academy of White House Chefs will award graduating seniors $500 scholarships; Arndt also named individual students in attendance and noted other students up for larger scholarships, including one student up for a $165,000 scholarship to Johnson & Wales.
Board members and attendees praised the students’ professionalism and the program’s ability to connect students to college and career pathways. Arndt highlighted that WMCTC placements often lead to paid co-ops in fields such as HVAC and skilled trades, and she emphasized that technical education can lead to college and high-earning jobs.
The board presented recognition and invited students to remain for the meeting, with no action required.
