Allendale honors first responders after restaurateur revived at Morning Bloom Cafe

Mayor Amy Winski and the Allendale Borough Council on June 12 publicly thanked police officers, EMS personnel and several bystanders for saving the life of local restaurateur Eddie Vicelli after a medical emergency at Morning Bloom Cafe on May 9.
"Without hesitation, you answered that call," Mayor Amy Winski told a packed council chamber, naming EMTs and officers involved and calling the response a "powerful reminder" of the role first responders and trained bystanders play in emergencies. The mayor said Vicelli, who has owned three restaurants in Allendale for more than two decades, was alive because of immediate action by people at the scene.
Chief Mike Dylan commended officers and volunteers and urged residents to learn CPR and AED use. "Being a police officer is much more than enforcing the law," Chief Dylan said. He noted the department and Valley EMS worked in sync and praised county-supported programs that improve on-scene communication with residents who have disabilities.
Eddie Vicelli and family members joined the council briefly; the mayor read statistics stressing the importance of timely intervention in out-of-hospital cardiac arrests and credited bystander CPR and AED use with markedly improving survival chances.
The council presented public thanks to named responders and invited the community to recognize the episode as an example of coordinated emergency care that can save lives. The meeting proceeded to its regular agenda afterward.
