Bushnell described the district's use of Federal Form 506 for identifying Native students and noted a state supplement to the federal grant that helps fund the district position. She highlighted the district's Native connections coordinator, Brooklyn Timbu, a Boxelder High graduate who works with families and whose presence staff said improved attendance and student engagement in some classrooms.
A motion to approve the application was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote with no recorded opposition.
Staff said the grant funds supplement existing services and support hiring and programming targeted to Native students. The board took no additional action beyond approving the application and asked staff to continue program outreach and reporting.
