District staff provided the board with a visual update on Fairmount Elementary's renovation, showing progress that includes lightweight concrete pour, HVAC installation, window installation, framing, electrical and sheetrock.
The presenter said work included adding foam base and lightweight concrete to level the stage area, installing HVAC units and windows, finishing basement pillars to support reinforced floors, and replacing classroom fixtures. "We are on target to have everything in by August 1st. The furniture should be here by August 1st," the presenter said.
Board members praised the contractor coordination and asked whether design details to match existing building character would be included in later phases; the presenter said such decorative work is planned for a subsequent renovation phase. Minor hiccups were mentioned but presenter said there were no major surprises uncovered during construction.
What happens next: the district will continue finishing work, install classroom flooring and furniture, and prepare spaces for the upcoming school year. The board received the update for informational purposes and did not take formal action during the meeting.
