The North Brunswick Township Board of Education, meeting Jan. 7 for its annual reorganization, swore in newly seated members, accepted the November election results, elected Haley To as board president for 2025, and unanimously adopted the board’s annual code of ethics acknowledgment.
During the swearing-in, Dr. Patel recited the oath of office, stating, “I do solemnly swear that I possess the qualifications prescribed by the law for the office of a member of a board of education,” language used to confirm eligibility and commitment to perform duties faithfully. Mr. Singh repeated the oath when sworn and later told the board he was “very excited to work closely with all of you” and thanked family and voters for their support.
The board voted to accept the November election results. The clerk reported there are more than 29,000 registered voters in North Brunswick and more than 23,000 ballots cast in the election; the board moved to accept the results, the motion was seconded and the chair announced the results accepted by voice vote.
Nominations for board leadership followed. One nomination was made for Haley To as board president for a one-year term; with no other nominations the board took a verbal vote and the chair declared Haley To elected president. For vice president, one nomination was made for Miss James; the board closed nominations, recorded the formal voice vote for the record and Miss James was declared vice president.
The board then read the annual code of ethics letter-by-letter (items A–I) and moved to adopt the acknowledgment. Because the board emphasized the matter’s importance, the chair called a roll call vote. The clerk recorded unanimous “yes” votes from all nine members present and the code of ethics acknowledgment was accepted and approved.
The board opened the public comment period and invited members of the public to sign in and speak for up to three minutes; no one spoke and the public portion was closed. The meeting ended with brief remarks thanking volunteers, staff and voters and a motion to adjourn.
The board said it will meet again later in the month; no additional substantive actions were taken at this reorganization meeting.
