Hillsborough Board swears in three members; Paul Marini elected president, Cindy Nurse named vice president

At a reorganization meeting on Jan. 6, 2025, the Hillsborough Township Board of Education swore in three recently elected members and chose new officers to lead the board for the year.

Elaine Jackson, Allison Lanningbeer and Jane Stats each took the statutory oath of office at the start of the meeting. "I, Elaine Jackson, do solemnly swear…" Jackson recited before applause. Allison Lanningbeer and Jane Stats repeated the oath in turn.

During the nominations for board officers, a motion to elect Paul Marini as president carried on a roll-call vote. The transcript records "Mr. Davis, Elaine Jackson, Miss Craig, Allison Lanningbeer, Mr. Lee, Mr. Marini, Cindy Nurse" voting yes; two members recorded abstentions. Following that vote, Cindy Nurse was nominated and approved as vice president in a separate roll-call vote.

The new president outlined committee assignments: operations to be chaired by Mr. Davis; human resources chaired by Cindy Nurse with Mr. Lee and Allison Lanningbeer serving on that committee; education chaired by Elaine Jackson; governance to include the chairs of the other committees. The president said most liaison assignments remain unchanged.

The board completed a roll call establishing the presence of members for the reorganization meeting and moved on to routine business. The meeting included a moment to recognize the recent passing of longtime district custodian Jose Chicas.

The board left committee dates and some meeting-schedule refinements to upcoming committee meetings. The next regular meeting was scheduled consistent with the calendar approved at the session.
