Park board approves $85,000 in funding for Roughrider Commission events

The Stark County Park Board voted to authorize $85,000 in commission funding for the Roughrider Commission to support community events this year, including rodeos, demos and parade setup.
"It is $85,000," said Dwayne Wolf, treasurer of the Roughrider Commission, when confirming the request. He told the board the amount is consistent with recent years and that the commission budgets retained earnings to cover event costs. Wolf also said recent increases in vendor and contractor prices — including liability insurance costs of roughly $12,000–$13,000 a year for $2 million coverage — have affected event planning.
A motion to authorize the $85,000 was moved and seconded; the board approved the funding by roll-call vote with the expectation that the commission will document expenses and follow prior reimbursement procedures.
Staff will coordinate with the commission on reporting and verification of expenses as part of the county’s funding oversight.
