Doctor Harris presented the second reading of Policy 805.2 (school security personnel) at the William Penn School District Policy Committee meeting on April 9, describing changes made to align district policy with recent school-code updates.
Harris said the policy requires school safety and security coordinators to hold coordinating meetings with school and building leadership “on at least a quarterly basis,” keep attendance records of who attended those meetings, and produce a report shared with Central Office and the school board at the end of the school year. The coordinator must also coordinate mandated school-safety training for staff and meet annually with staff to solicit input on that training.
Harris noted training requirements: coordinators must complete seven hours of training during the first year and undertake continuing education thereafter in school safety and security. After the presentation, Mr. Deans and others told the committee the district had already been implementing these practices and that the policy update formalizes existing work.
The presentation concluded with no vote taken; the item was presented as a second reading for committee consideration.
