Harris described the first provision: “a student who becomes habitually truant may not transfer during that school year to a cyber charter without the approval of a judge and a court.” The second provision requires that notifications to parents or guardians include resources to help return the student to compulsory attendance and outline academic-recovery opportunities beyond the minimum requirements.
Harris also said the revision removes some outdated administrative regulations in consultation with the district solicitor to improve clarity and efficiency. No hands were raised to request further changes at the meeting and the item proceeded as a second-reading update for the committee’s consideration.
The presentation did not include a vote; the committee will address next steps at a future scheduled meeting.
