Opponents at the meeting asked for clearer financial reporting and asked why the Way Station should receive town funds rather than rely on existing welfare processes or county services. Lavine responded that some grant funds intended for countywide response had been exhausted and that the Way Station supplies immediate, mobile outreach that complements (but does not replace) statutory general assistance.
After discussion, the article was brought to a vote and passed during town meeting.
