Board approves retirements, lease extension, insurance transfer, payables and record‑destruction resolutions

At its March 17 business meeting the Kootenai County Board of Commissioners approved a series of routine actions spanning personnel, real estate, maintenance and records retention.
Undersheriff Brett Nelson asked the board to approve retirements for Detective Patrick Meehan, who is leaving after 23 years of service, and Deputy Carl Claflin, who served 19 years; the board approved awarding each their sheriff’s badge, duty weapon and ID card in accordance with Idaho code.
County staff approved a FY26‑budgeted resurfacing project at KCSO North for $49,848.75 after Tom Reed (Sheriff’s Office maintenance) described the need. The board also authorized a 60‑day lease extension with Lakes Highway District to keep boat launch maintenance in place while staff prepares a long‑term lease.
Nick Snyder said the county received insurance proceeds from ICRMP for damage sustained to the Harrison breakwater in the Dec. 25 windstorm and asked that the funds be transferred from the risk management account to Parks & Waterways to pay the contractor; the board approved the transfer.
Commissioners approved payables for March 9–13, 2026 totaling $1,160,873.15. Director Eric Sheffield explained and the board adopted Resolution 2026‑39 to classify temporary juvenile detention records eligible for destruction and Resolution 2026‑40 to destroy records that have exceeded retention periods.
