Kootenai County Transit staff on March 17 won board approval to publish the proposed FY27–31 program of projects, a required step to access Federal Transit Administration Section 5307 formula funding for fixed‑route and ADA paratransit services in the county’s urbanized area.
Chad Engel, with the transit department, said the annual public‑notice step "allows us to access federal transit formula funds through the Federal Transit Administration Section 5307 program" and to identify how anticipated federal funds and local match may be programmed to maintain existing services. Engel told the board approval would let staff publish the required notice in the Coeur d'Alene Press and move forward with a public hearing on April 21, after which final adoption would return to the board for incorporation into regional and state transportation improvement programs.
A member of the public, Ron Hartman, asked where and when the notice would be posted; Engel said the notice would run in the Coeur d'Alene Press and staff planned to submit it the next day if approved.
On the recorded vote, Commissioner Eberlein voted no; Commissioner Duncan and the chair voted yes. The board approved publishing the notice.
