County approves coroner equipment, autopsy‑lab testing and building repainting

Kootenai County commissioners on March 17 approved multiple facility and coroner office requests intended to keep essential services and building projects on schedule.
Jeff Vollar, director of facilities, asked the board for approval to order a budgeted portable x‑ray machine for the coroner's autopsy lab. "We are requesting your approval to order that now . . . because it is something we can start using right away with the temporary lab that we have set up," Vollar said. The transcript does not record a purchase price for the x‑ray in the board record; Vollar said the item was part of the autopsy lab budget and owner‑furnished equipment.
Vollar also presented a $14,566 quote from Budinger & Associates for third‑party materials testing on the autopsy lab remodel, noting the department had budgeted $8,000 for that line but had brought other line items under budget and can cover the overage. The board approved the testing quote.
Separately, Vollar requested approval to repaint the county’s old justice building in an off‑white color with bronze trim to match an addition; the project was budgeted in FY26 and the board approved moving forward with River City Painting.
Each of the three requests was approved by recorded vote. The board did not receive public comment on these items during the meeting.
