Neighborhood group asks Keokuk council to donate two under‑sized lots for tiny‑home project

During the citizens’ request portion of the meeting, Tim Peaveler, a member of the Kiaak Neighborhood Initiative, asked the council to consider donating two city‑owned, undersized lots near George Washington School (116 North 7th and 129 North 7th) to the neighborhood group so they can be combined with adjacent K&I land to form developable parcels.
Peaveler said K&I has been maintaining nearby lots — mowing and snow removal — and that consolidating the small parcels would make them usable to a developer. He said Iowa 2x4s for Hope is considering placing one or two tiny homes on the combined lots and invited council members to a public meeting Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at the Lake Cooper Foundation for the group to explain the program and answer questions.
No formal action by the council occurred at the meeting; Peaveler said the request would be brought forward to staff and council when appropriate.
