Council members approved hiring and transition plans for a Warrant Civil Specialist vacancy after a long‑time employee (Marsha) said she will retire after about 29 years. The wage committee recommended hiring a replacement in July and transferring existing payroll funds into a temporary position to allow an overlapping training period.
Sheriff’s Office staff said the transfers avoid additional appropriations. A council member commended the office for identifying transfers and not asking for new county dollars: “Not asking for additional appropriations here, being able to be creative, find flexible solutions, and not come to the Council asking for more money,” a council member said.
The council also approved creating a court‑security sergeant position to supervise court‑security staff, act as a liaison to the jail commander, and provide oversight of bailiffs and transport operations; funding will come from transfers and be incorporated into the 2027 budget. Sheriff’s staff said the county still performs many in‑person inmate transports and that the new supervisor will rotate among court locations and supervise staff who remain county employees.
Separately, the council approved a part‑time jail kitchen position intended to relieve current employees tasked with ordering, inventory and covering absences. Officials emphasized that funds are being transferred from existing accounts rather than added to the general fund.
The meeting also included several administrative personnel actions: a title change for extension support specialists, promotion/title‑and‑transfer adjustments for a public‑safety systems staff member (Garrett), and a drug‑court case manager’s reclassification to program coordinator (no immediate salary change). Each item was approved by council motion.
Next steps: departments will implement the approved transfers and submit revised job descriptions for wage‑committee review; the county will fold permanent pay lines into the 2027 budget as described by staff.
