Pocahontas County Board approves right-of-way for bridge project, CAASA funding and union contract

The Pocahontas County Board of Supervisors on May 5 approved a set of routine but operationally important items, including a right-of-way purchase for a bridge project, a small county contribution to a regional service provider, a union contract and multiple farm manure plans.
County Engineer Tate Schmeling presented an agreement to purchase the Cummins 4/9 South right-of-way needed for the Bridge to Culver Project; the board approved the purchase by motion from Supervisor Brent Aden, seconded by Supervisor Kyle Smith. Schmeling also provided an update on ongoing projects (the minutes note an update but do not list project-level details).
The board approved a FY27 participation agreement with CAASA for $2,500 (motion by Peter Seehusen, seconded by Brent Aden) and approved signing the CWA union contract (motion by Clarence Siepker, seconded by Peter Seehusen). The board also approved VPN access for a Public Health staff member, Mara Hinson, on a motion by Kyle Smith.
Financial approvals included Secondary Roads invoices for JT DD 46-88 ($491.60) and JT DD 181 Little Cedar ($452.18), and approval of a $80.00 beavertail invoice for Greg Cundiff in JT DD73 MOD. The board approved a set of manure management plans for multiple sites and owners, recording plan ID numbers and township locations in the minutes.
Supervisors provided brief weekly reports on drainage, CRF, UDMO activity, weed/tree spray complaints and training. The board also acknowledged that both assembly room windows have been replaced and that there will be no supervisors meeting the week of June 1 due to the election.
