Pocahontas County Board adopts FY26 budget amendment, boosts road and IT appropriations

Pocahontas County Board of Supervisors on May 5 adopted a resolution amending the county’s 2025/2026 budget, increasing appropriations across several departments including Secondary Roads and Information Technology.

At an 11 a.m. public hearing, Auditor Nita Hinrickson presented proof of publication for the proposed amendment. No members of the public attended and no written objections were filed; Supervisor Peter Seehusen said he had one individual call with a question but raised no formal objection. The board approved Resolution 2026-05-#23 by unanimous voice vote.

The resolution revises appropriations and budgeted revenues as published. Notable changes to appropriations include an $826,000 increase for Secondary Roads (raising that department’s appropriation to $3,737,686) and a $185,300 increase for IT (raising IT appropriations to $357,000). Non-departmental appropriations were increased by $2,328,007. Totals in the resolution show prior total appropriations of $4,446,728, adjustments of $3,515,627 and final appropriations of $7,962,355. Budgeted revenues were increased in several departments with total revenues rising from $322,750 by $608,137 to a final total of $930,887.

The board recorded specific department-level adjustments in the resolution, including increases for the Auditor, Attorney, Sheriff, Conservation, Veterans Affairs, Building & Grounds and Medical Examiner, and reductions or zeroing out for others where noted in the published amendment. The minutes include the line-item appropriation and revenue tables adopted with the resolution.

Chairman Louis Stauter and all supervisors signed the resolution. The board then moved on to routine business and adjourned.
