District staff presented the District Parent and Family Engagement Policy (Policy 6020) and asked DAC members to provide feedback to guide implementation and the LCAP federal addendum.
The presenter explained Policy 6020 is tied to Title I requirements and clarifies the board’s expectation that parents and guardians be involved in district and school activities, advisory roles and decisionmaking. The policy requires outreach to families of English learners, foster youth, students eligible for free and reduced-price meals and students with disabilities.
Staff described allowable Title I parent-engagement expenditures (professional development for staff to support family engagement, community outreach by ATLAS, family-engagement workshops, dissemination of best practices for economically disadvantaged parents and collaboration with community-based organizations) and noted the policy is provided in English and Spanish. A council member suggested more community-wide events (such as a district picnic) to build unity across demographic groups rather than separate ethnic-oriented events.
The presenter invited attendees to submit ideas via the provided feedback form or the burning-question form and said staff would incorporate input into budget and LCAP discussions. No formal board action was taken at the meeting.
