Central Valley FBLA outlines state competition plans; district recognizes student STEM and arts winners

Tessa Hoser, a sophomore and chapter officer for Central Valley Future Business Leaders of America, told the school board on April 8 that the chapter — made up of more than 100 students — will send 29 qualifiers to the Pennsylvania FBLA State Leadership Conference in Hershey.
"I am here on behalf of Central Valley FBLA to thank you for your support and explain what your support helps us with," Hoser said, describing FBLA’s competitive tiers and the chapter’s role as head chapter in Region 10. She outlined that officers attend state leadership workshops and that the chapter hosts live performance events judged by local volunteers.
The presentation highlighted the chapter’s participation in more than 65 competitive events and leadership programs, and framed the state conference as a major professional-development opportunity for students. Hoser said her parliamentary-procedure team and other competitors have prepared through regional contests, and that state competition offers networking and workshops for thousands of students.
The club sponsor, identified as Miss Roxand, publicly thanked district administrators Mr. McCreary and Mr. Vakovacan and the board for support in rebuilding and expanding the chapter since 2014.
Board members also recognized several other student achievements: Callie Patterson and Annabelle Lewis placed second in the Beaver County STEM Design Challenge for grades four and five; Nina Rapertie was a finalist in the Fred Talks essay competition; and the Crane Crew (Kalista Menshaw, Tyler Odinthal, Abby Simmers, Max Simmers and Daniel Rapertie) placed first in their division at the BVIU STEM competition. Central Valley High School was also noted for bringing the Environ Trophy back to the school.
The presentation concluded with thanks to the board and community for supporting student participation in leadership and competitive events. According to the presentation, the qualifiers will depart for Hershey on Sunday.
