Edmond Public Schools approved two curriculum purchases on April 1: a one-year secondary social-studies adoption and a six-year adoption of Advanced Placement (AP) social-studies materials. Administration said secondary social-studies selections (McGraw Hill and Pearson/Savis) will cover grades 6–12 for $223,739.82 using instructional bond funds; the one-year term reflects the delay in state social-studies standards and allows a normal adoption next year.
The board also approved $1,124,964.71 for AP social-studies materials across multiple AP courses. Administration summarized teacher committee recommendations for each AP course (for example, Norton for AP European History; BFW for AP World, US, government, comparative government and multiple other AP subjects; McGraw Hill for AP economics) and noted supplemental AMSCO materials to prepare students for AP testing. Board members asked whether a six-year adoption risks misalignment if AP College Board changes course emphases; district staff and Liz Rogers explained AP updates occur roughly every five to ten years and that some AP materials (a consumable edition) are updated annually.
