PGCPS staff outline strategic-plan priorities, parent-engagement programs and use of community-school grant to preserve positions

District staff used the April 8 PCAC meeting to explain the "Forward by Design" strategic-plan process and to detail parent-engagement programs and staff preservation measures amid budget cuts.
"It's really going to be a roadmap for the next 3 years," Dr. Jackson said when outlining the plan's phases and the district's intention to align the plan with the State's blueprint while soliciting community input over the next two months.
Dr. Jackson highlighted several initiatives: a ribbon-cutting for renovated libraries at Frederick Douglass High School, a Teacher of the Year announcement timeline, Family Institute information sessions on IEPs, kindergarten readiness and trauma/resiliency, Parent Cafes, and "Dadversity" father-engagement workshops. She said many parent-engagement assistants who faced job losses will now have salaries covered by a community-schools grant, and pupil personnel workers assigned to community schools will similarly be supported. "We were able to keep them here because of opening up that grant," Dr. Jackson said, noting the move preserved roughly 70 positions that might otherwise have been cut.
Dr. Jackson also said the district will post strategic-plan materials online and produce community newsletters so parents can access meeting recordings, presentations and membership lists. Staff invited PCAC members to schedule follow-up discussions and to participate in May and June advisory sessions.
The district presented these program details as part of a broader effort to make engagement more accessible, to clarify where data and decisions originate, and to solicit targeted parent feedback ahead of the strategic plan coming to the full Board by late June.
