City staff recommended and the council approved an amendment to a Class 3 salvage, scrapping and recycling permit to allow salvaging of machinery and equipment in the PM16 building at the former paper mill property.
Mr. Curts told the council the demo contractor (MRD) had already removed a major machine and sought permission to salvage remaining equipment (coders and calendars) staged south of the PM16 building. Staff recommended three conditions for approval: extend the existing bond to cover the additional salvaging work; amend the city-owner contract dated August 2024 to include the salvaging activities; and extend the Class 3 salvage permit for 12 months.
Council members asked whether the permit application was included in the council packet; staff said a hard copy was available and would be posted online. With the conditions recommended by staff, council approved the permit amendment by recorded vote (motion passed 7–1).
