Administration weighs switching elementary from trimesters to semesters to ease teacher workload

“We have conferences typically in early October and then again late February or early March,” Meyer said, explaining that some specialized plans can be “six or seven pages long” and increase teacher burden when combined with report cards and conference preparation. He noted district staff who previously worked in districts using semesters reported parents did not feel less informed under the semester model.
Meyer described the shift as an effort to preserve communication quality while easing staff workload; he said teachers already contact parents during the year and that report formats would continue to provide narrative feedback for younger grades. The board discussed timing, asked for additional staff feedback and did not take formal action at this meeting. Meyer said the district would pilot or further study the change and return with recommendations.
