Bell Gardens council names Miguel de la Rosa mayor and Isabelle Gillian mayor pro tem

The council began the reorganization portion of the meeting with a series of recognitions from neighboring jurisdictions and elected officials; representatives from the cities of Bell and Norwalk publicly commended outgoing mayor Marco Barca for his service.
Councilmember Miguel de la Rosa was nominated for mayor, nominations were closed, and the council approved the appointment by roll call vote. In remarks after his appointment, de la Rosa thanked colleagues, family and residents and said he will “lead with the same spirit” and emphasized inclusion: “I want every person in the city to feel that Bell Gardens belongs to them because it does.”
The council then nominated and appointed Councilwoman Isabelle Gillian as mayor pro tem by unanimous vote. Councilmembers offered congratulatory remarks and encouraged collaboration during the coming year.
Separately, the council approved adjustments to external committee assignments, including swapping alternates on the LA County City Selection Committee and the Sanitation District of LA County, by roll call vote.
What happens next: de la Rosa and Gillian will assume their leadership duties immediately; staff will update external committee assignments and continue scheduled council business under the new chair.
