Jefferson County proclaims National Public Health Week, recognizes Health Officer Dr. David Hicks

President Stevens read the proclamation, saying the county recognizes public health "plays a vital role in protecting and improving the health, safety and well-being of the residents of Jefferson County." The proclamation highlighted the department's work in prevention, emergency preparedness and health education.
Jefferson County Health Officer Dr. David Hicks accepted the proclamation and thanked the commission. He told commissioners the department has served the county since 1917 and employs "over 400 employees" who work behind the scenes on disease prevention and community health initiatives.
The commission said the proclamation was intended to raise awareness of prevention, health education and community partnerships and to encourage residents to support local public health efforts. No formal action beyond the proclamation was taken.
