Teachers report widespread internet, device and printer problems that disrupt instruction
Summary
MEA presented 2026 survey results finding 95% dissatisfaction with district internet/network, 72% problems with student devices, and 69% issues with printers/copiers; examples included intermittent Wi‑Fi outages, removed apps, and printers that fail to print, which union members say wastes instructional time.

MEA representatives summarized the 2026 staff survey on instructional technology and communications. The survey reported 95% of respondents expressed dissatisfaction with the district internet/network, 72% were frustrated with student devices, and 69% cited problems with printers and copy machines; 68 certificated staff responded to the survey.
Speakers recounted specific examples: intermittent internet outages that sometimes are only discovered upon arriving at school, student devices with rapidly draining batteries or broken cameras/trackpads, printers that frequently break or fail to print despite sending documents, and the unannounced removal of teacher apps such as Splashtop that previously enabled mobile projection and annotation. "The internet will be down every other day, and we won't know until we arrive in the morning," an MEA presenter said, noting the effect on planning and instruction.
The group placed technology as a mid‑priority item on the rolling agenda and asked the district and MEA to develop concrete proposals and data (network uptime metrics, device replacement schedules, and help‑desk response times) for discussion at upcoming sessions.
