The City of Live Oak council voted to release code-enforcement liens on a dilapidated property at 711 Bridal Street Northeast and to require the typical $500 processing fee, acting under authority granted by Ordinance 15-34.
Staff (speaker 1) described the parcel as in poor condition with liens dating back to an unsafe-building finding in 2010 and said the amnesty would allow someone to pay the required processing fee and restore the property. The attorney (speaker 3) described the city’s longstanding practice, saying the $500 fee has historically covered staff review of applications and code-enforcement records: "Our typical charge has been 500 because our ordinance requires that that that essentially 2 things," he said, explaining the verification steps required before a satisfaction of lien is recorded in Suwannee County.
A council member (speaker 2) moved to release the lien in accordance with Ordinance 15-34 and to require the $500 payment; the motion was seconded and brought to discussion. Councilors and staff discussed that the $500 is intended to cover administrative processing and staff time, and that in some cases properties may have been foreclosed previously which could affect next steps.
The council took a voice vote. A council member called for 'Aye' and the chair declared the release approved in accordance with Ordinance 15-34. The transcript records the vote by voice and does not include a roll-call tally; the council declared the motion approved.
