The approved approach, described by proponents as "configuration testing," will verify correct precinct data and device connectivity across the fleet and use a sample‑based functionality check rather than exhaustive functional tests on every pad. The board recorded a motion, a second, and a unanimous voice vote in favor of the plan.
Board members and staff emphasized that configuration checks must prevent errors such as poll pads retaining data from a prior election (an issue noted in pre‑processing) and that the office will still run configuration checks on every pad and functional tests on a sample set of devices. Staff said they would maintain a shortened checklist adapted from prior full checklists and schedule testing in ways that fit the limited time available before election day.
The board asked staff to ensure observers can watch testing where appropriate and to report test schedules and methodology to the board.
