Smithville Communications shows committee a local fiber footprint; company says future builds will be demand-driven

Paul Quick, president of Smithville Communications, presented a map of Smithville's fiber footprint to the reorganization committee and said Smithville provides fiber in parts of Ellettsville, Bean Blossom and Richland Township and will expand service based on demand.
Quick told the committee the map (one copy left for the record and the presenter planned to retrieve the confidential copies) shows Smithville's existing fiber lines and that AT&T and Comcast also provide coverage in portions of the combined area. He said Smithville will prioritize builds "based on demand, based on return on investment, based on what's best for this combined community." (unattributed: presenter emphasized the company prefers customers to choose Smithville.)
In response to a question about copper-served neighborhoods near Whitehall, Chad Hawkins, Smithville's plant engineering leader, said work has begun in the Whitehall area and that other sections — including stretches of Howard Road, Mallory Road and the west end of Vernal Pike — are upgradeable and expected to be completed in later phases.
Quick offered committee members direct contact information for follow-up questions and said one copy of the map would remain on the record for committee reference.
