"If a data center were to go in, we have the potential to use up to 500,000,000 gallons a day," said Julia Barton, who said she is organizing countywide public meetings on the issue. "This is not just a city issue. We certainly would support a pause and will collect signatures in support." She spoke during the public‑comment period and called on the council to move beyond a work session to formal action.
Tia Lowe, speaking as a nurse practitioner, said health consequences and environmental effects merit further study. "We have a very high burden of cancers in Ashtabula County that are still of unknown cause," she said, urging the council to "look at the data" before permitting major industrial development.
