Rubbish delays, library and Mandalay meetings scheduled; mayor says firefighters ratified contract

Service Director Sepik and Mayor Gallo gave brief operational updates at the Parma Heights City Council meeting on April 27.

Sepik told the council that rubbish collection will be delayed at the end of May because of the Memorial Day holiday and asked residents to refer to the city’s website and Facebook for road‑closure and schedule information. He said a library pre‑demolition meeting is scheduled for April 28 and a Mandalay pre‑construction meeting for May 5; crews are conducting street cleaning with asphalt crews following for patchwork and pothole repairs. Sepik also reported the city received three rubbish‑collection bids and that an administration recommendation will be forthcoming.

Mayor Gallo reported the Senior Center served or delivered 1,338 meals over the past two weeks and participated in Earth Day activities; he said the center will be closed for two weeks for health upkeep while continuing to provide meals. He also told council the firefighters voted to ratify their contract and that the ratified contract will be on an upcoming council agenda for the council’s consideration.

During public comment resident Laura Bednar thanked the city for paving work on East Huffman and asked the council to repair two missing basketball hoops at Kurtz Park. No formal motion or staff response to that specific request was recorded in the minutes.

The council recessed briefly to an executive session on pending or imminent court action and returned before resuming legislative business.
