During public comment at the May 11 Bellflower City Council meeting, Lawanda Hawkins and Cynthia Behar Nasseri representing Justice for Murdered Children asked the council to help spread the word about the unsolved 2008 homicide of Vincent Bajar.
Hawkins told the council that on Sept. 1, 2008, Vincent was murdered at 15000 Eucalyptus in Bellflower and that the family has carried unanswered questions for nearly 18 years. Hawkins said LA County Supervisor (as named in the record) Janice Hans has offered a $20,000 reward for information leading to arrest and conviction. The speakers said a billboard on Alondra Boulevard has been installed to renew attention to the case and announced a press conference scheduled for May 12 at 10 a.m. in the parking lot of Taco El Fango.
Cynthia Behar Nasseri, who identified herself as Vincent’s aunt and president of Justice for Homicide Victims, described community outreach the family has done over the years (flyers on Eucalyptus each Sept. 1) and urged anyone with information to contact LA Crime Stoppers (phone numbers were provided during the remarks). "Someone knows something," Behar Nasseri said, asking the council and community to stand with the family to seek justice.
Mayor and staff acknowledged the remarks, noted the Crime Stoppers tip line and homicide detectives as contacts, and offered condolences to the family.
What’s next: The family asked councilmembers to attend the May 12 press conference and to amplify the call for tips; the family and advocates said they will continue awareness efforts to seek leads for investigators.
