The Holyoke City Council opened its April 7 meeting by formally recognizing the Holyoke High School/Dean Tech wrestling program for a string of recent competitive accomplishments. Councilor Israel Rivera introduced coaches Vincent "Vin" Solano, Matthew Begley and Luis Robles and invited members of the team to the chamber for a proclamation and photos.
Rivera praised the coaches for their "dedication, discipline and heart," and named recent honors including an MIAA Sportsmanship Award for Solano and MIAA Division II and Division III Coach of the Year recognition for Solano in successive seasons. The council highlighted that Steven Santiago has reached a school-record 150 career wins and that Jesus Morales and Parker Brunelle were 2025-26 D3 West champions.
Coach Vincent Solano thanked the council and credited parents, families and the broader school community for support. Rivera and other councilors encouraged residents to support youth athletics and posed for group photographs with the athletes.
The recognition required no formal council action beyond the ceremonial proclamation and was presented at the start of the regular meeting.
