Trustees clarified neither Serpent and Dove nor Blood and Honey is part of the district curriculum; the books are held in high‑school library collections only. Dr. Gomez noted that parents can see books their child checks out and place restrictions on an individual child’s checkout privileges. He added that, if a title were part of a curriculum in future years, the district’s alternative‑assignment policy would allow parents to request an alternate reading.
Trustee Mrs. Duncan moved to retain both titles, and the motion was seconded (identified in the record as Mrs. Meisel Flint). President Taylor Kingman called for raised hands; the board recorded the motion as passing 7–0.
