Bernie Tech Academy honored as California Distinguished School at El Rancho board meeting

Bernie Tech Academy was recognized as a California Distinguished School during the El Rancho Unified School District Board of Education meeting on June 24.
Superintendent Dr. Viegas called the designation "no joke," noting the rigorous selection and the school's work in closing achievement gaps. Board members, administrators and volunteers praised the school's leadership, staff and community programs, including the school's house system and assemblies they said build student ownership and engagement.
Board members asked school representatives to come forward for recognition and photos; trustees and community volunteers offered words of congratulation to principal Sandra Gyos and the Bernie Tech staff. "We are so proud of them," a board member said during the presentation.
The recognition was presented in open session ahead of the board's adoption of several district items and followed public comment and advisory presentations.
What’s next: The board asked for continued reflection on site needs and thanked staff for work that supports students across the district.
