City staff reported that Zero Waste Marin is conducting outreach to increase composting compliance after identifying 12 commercial customers in Larkspur that are not in compliance with the latest composting requirements.
"Zero Waste Marin is currently working on a couple of programs to push out new information about compost recycling...for example, Larkspur has 12 commercial users that are customers that are violating the law. So we're working with them to begin composting," Dan Schwarz reported.
Staff noted the county mailed a bilingual (English/Spanish) informational mailer describing why composting matters and practical tips, such as storing food scraps in a sealed bag in the freezer before placing them in a green bin. The forum viewed the outreach as useful and asked staff to continue engagement with the identified commercial properties to bring them into compliance.
Next step: staff will work with Zero Waste Marin to follow up with the listed commercial customers and report progress in future status updates and in the climate dashboard materials to be provided to council.
