The South Lake Tahoe City Council voted to approve phase one of the Tahoe Valley Storm Water and Green Belt Improvement Project, authorizing paving work on specified streets and associated greenbelt stormwater elements.
Public works staff said $333,000 of roadway rehabilitation funds would be used for the paving component as part of the annual pavement rehabilitation program. The greenbelt features included in the project will require ongoing maintenance estimated by staff at approximately $50,000 annually; council members asked that maintenance funding be built into future street maintenance planning.
A local resident and a nearby bicyclist spoke in favor of the project, citing repeated flooding and the poor condition of pavement that made bicycle travel unsafe. Councilmembers asked about long‑term maintenance funding and staff said additional resources will be pursued in the capital program and through grant opportunities.
The motion to approve construction and associated funding carried unanimously.
