The Marriage System Commission voted April 8, 2026, to certify the full‑time mechanic entry list for the street division, a move commissioners said was intended to ensure coverage during the summer and reduce the need to divert street staff to support shop work.
A commissioner summarized the candidate pool and staffing need, saying the commission had five applicants and “four took the test.” Commissioners noted two top candidates already work in the street department and expressed concern about making a commercial driver’s license (CDL) a mandatory requirement because some candidates have CDLs but lack mechanical experience. One member said the department needs a third mechanic so that no mechanic has to work alone while others are on leave.
A motion to certify the full‑time mechanic entry list was made and seconded, and the roll call recorded affirmative votes from Mr. Watts, Mr. Kee and Mrs. Wy, approving certification. Commissioners said interviews will follow for candidates who are not current employees.
By certifying the list, the commission authorized staff to move forward with candidate interviews and hiring as vacancies allow.
