House advances victim‑notification updates to comply with likely Marsy's Law adoption

Representative Sherrell told the House that House Bill 2221 updates the criminal proceedings notification system administered by the Tennessee Sheriff's Association by requiring criminal court clerks to make application data available so victims can receive timely alerts as their cases move through the system. Sherrell said the measure is needed so Tennessee will comply with Marsy's Law if voters adopt it in November, and noted 86 counties already participate.
Sherrell said the bill will help bring remaining counties into the system and ensure victims who register receive notifications once an offender is booked and as the case progresses through the courts. The House passed the bill on third reading (Ayes 93).
