Campbell proclaims September 2025 Childhood Cancer Awareness Month; recognizes payroll staff

Mayor Lopez opened the Sept. 2 Campbell City Council meeting by inviting local advocates to lead the pledge and accepting two proclamations recognizing community efforts. The council declared September 2025 Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, honoring families affected by pediatric cancers and local support organizations.
Lisa Pagan, introduced as founder and executive director of KOA Strong Childhood Cancer Prevention Organization, and Alyssa Gila of Jacob's Heart Children's Cancer Support Services addressed the council. Gila said, “Every day in the United States, 47 children are diagnosed with cancer,” and described JacobHeart's role providing emotional, financial and practical support to families navigating treatment.
Mayor Lopez also presented a proclamation for National Payroll Week and invited Finance Director Will Fentes to accept it and thank payroll and human resources staff members Kim Graham and Karolina Vargas. Fentes thanked the council and staff for their work ensuring accurate pay and benefits processing for city employees.
The proclamations were ceremonial recognitions and did not require council action beyond acceptance. The council paused for photos and offered brief remarks of thanks to the organizations and staff.
