Staff member says new classrooms with attached bathrooms have increased instructional time

A staff member said a recent building project has given teachers more instructional time by equipping every classroom with an attached bathroom. “I would say the one big thing is kind of we have more time for instruction now,” the staff member said.
The staff member described how, before the renovations, students shared bathrooms and teachers and students faced lengthy transitions. “Before, when we were sharing bathrooms, now every classroom is equipped with a bathroom that's attached inside the classroom,” the staff member said. They added that removing the need to wait in line has shortened transitions and reduced lost instructional minutes.
That reduction in transitions, the staff member said, has helped keep students calmer and allowed more consistent time in classrooms that were designed for them. “So, there's some sort of direct bathroom access. So, we no longer have long transitions to wait in line to go ahead and use bathrooms. So, there's more time for instruction,” they said.
The staff member also pointed to new classroom materials and organization as benefits of the project, saying the fresh supplies and thoughtfully designed spaces have improved the learning environment. “...nice fresh new materials at the same time, too, it's been really nice for them to go ahead and have that experience,” the staff member said.
The remarks were given in response to a question about how the building has supported teachers and staff from a leadership perspective.
