Lake County staff previews Lake County 2050 outreach and board guidance on cannabis setbacks and compliance

The board discussed odor setbacks and reached direction that varies by zoning: staff cited different distances in the record for agricultural and residential zoning and a proposed cap on maximum canopy size in rural residential zones; staff said the precise setback and canopy thresholds are part of ongoing code revisions.
Commissioners asked for clearer documentation of cumulative-impact analyses, improved lead time and coordination for site visits, and briefings on how staff determines that impacts have been mitigated to less-than-significant levels. Staff agreed to provide schedules for upcoming meetings and to coordinate site visits and educational briefings for commissioners.
Next steps: staff said the Lake County 2050 drafts and the EIR comment windows remain open for public input and that the proposed cannabis code changes will be further refined and returned for public hearings and possible ordinance changes.
