Kel Rowan, community development director, described the project as a multi‑partner restoration effort involving the Mason Conservation District, the Squaxin Island Tribe and the Hood Canal Salmon Enhancement Group and said the work would restore stream and wetland habitat for salmon populations. Rowan said the project falls within the county’s YRA/HYRA planning area and recommended the BOCC sign a letter of support on county letterhead.
Commissioner response and timing: Commissioners indicated support and asked staff to place an approval on the next commission meeting agenda; one commissioner noted the chair could sign earlier if the grant deadline precedes the next formal meeting and staff recommended routing through the administrator if necessary.
Next steps: Staff will finalize the letterhead text, verify deadlines and return with the document for signature or coordinate administrator signature if the timeline requires it.
