NORWALK — The Norwalk City Traffic Authority voted unanimously March 9 to approve full road closures for this weekend’s St. Patrick’s Day parade, clearing the way for an event organizers said will begin at 12:00 p.m.
Jason, a representative of the parade organizers, told the authority the lineup will be in the Betts Park parking lot and that the procession will proceed over the drawbridge, up Washington Street, then turn right onto North Main Street and finish at O'Neal’s for a brief ceremony. “This year…we’re starting at 12,” Jason said, noting the later start from prior years’ 11 a.m. schedule.
Mayor Barbara Smith called the event an annual, family-friendly tradition and opened the item for questions. A member raised that the road-closure application contained typographical errors in the listed times — examples included entries that read like “12 am to 12 am” — and asked staff to correct the public record. Jason acknowledged the typo and said staff would fix the timing entries that day.
After discussion, Mayor Barbara Smith called for the vote; all present members signaled approval and the motion passed unanimously. The authority did not record any no votes, abstentions, or recusals.
The authority set its next meeting for Monday, March 16 at 4:00 p.m. and adjourned. The approved closures and corrected application will govern street access during the parade on Saturday.
