Historic Beaufort Foundation presents bicentennial time capsule to Beaufort County

Lisa Sandrula of the Historic Beaufort Foundation presented a time capsule to Beaufort County Council on March 9 commemorating last year's bicentennial celebration marking the Marquis de Lafayette's 1825 visit.
Sandrula said the capsule contains memorabilia, a county resolution supporting the bicentennial, proclamations and items donated by community partners and schools; more than 3,000 people attended the March 18 celebration, and the Foundation included about 500 fifth-graders from Beaufort County Schools. "What we're bringing to you today ... is our time capsule," she said, and requested the county accept it into the Beaufort County Library's district collection so it can serve research and be opened in 50 or 100 years.
Council members and foundation volunteers participated in a brief ceremonial presentation; staff said the library will archive the contents and preserve the collection for future access.
What happens next: Library staff will accession the time capsule into the Beaufort County Library collection and coordinate any future public-access or opening events per the Foundation's request.
